A customer recently told me about some items he has in his garden along with his new windmill. I was able to locate the manufacturer and just got their catalogs in the mail. (Yes mail as in an envelope delivered to my USPS mail box-this manufacturer is not on the internet) After looking through the catalogs it certainly looks like they have a number of interesting products. I will be going on a road trip as soon as I can get away over to their manufacturing facility to take a look at their products, see how they are made and getting more information. This manufacturer is in the United States, the raw materials they use are American made and the people working there are Americans. As you know I sell quality products that are Made in the USA and come from small manufacturers who use Made in the USA raw materials. It is looking like I may have found a whole new line of yard and garden products.

There are several ways to mount a weathervane to the top of a cupola – some cupolas have a threaded mounting plate sized at 5/8 the inch or 3/4 inch. The black powder coated weathervanes are available with this mount.

There are two cupola mounts available for the Antique copper line – a four sided mount (for four and eight sided cupolas) and a three sided cupola mount for three, six and nine sided cupolas.

If you are planning to mount your weathervane to a cupola please email me some photos of your cupola so I can give you some suggestions of which mount has the best chance of working. I do not list the cupola mounts – there are so many different varieties and versions of cupolas that I really need to get more information before you place an order.

I sell garden windmills and weathervanes on line. Sometimes some really amusing things happen. A customer had ordered one of the college windmills a week or so ago. These are shipped from the manufacturer and I get the UPS tracking and I email that information to my customers, plus I get tracking updates from UPS.

There had been no indication or any problems from UPS, in fact I was seeing nothing but completed orders. (that means the item had been delivered.)

A customer sent me a message that he had not received his windmill yet and it was supposed to have arrived a few days before and was wondering when it was coming. I quickly checked the UPS tracking on that one and could see it had in fact been delivered. The UPS track said it had been left inside the side door.

An 8 foot garden windmill ships in a 30 X 25 X 8 inch box that weighs 38 pounds, so this is something pretty hard to miss.

I emailed the customer that it had been delivered several days before and that it had been placed inside the side door.

He emailed me back a few minutes later – YES he had found it. Turns out the “Side Door” is really his Sun Porch – a room he does not go into in the winter.

I found it amusing – there are a couple of very valid point here though. If you order something online and the seller sends you tracking information take a look at the information. Often the expected delivery date is there and UPS, FedEx and USPS are all pretty good with this. If they say an item will arrive on a certain day it almost always does.

To track a package just copy the tracking number and put it into Google search. Google will connect to the correct shipper and give you the tracking. You will be able to see where the package is.

If an item has been delivered and you are not seeing it – click on the delivery confirmation – UPS and FedEx both will tell you where the carrier left the package in case your were not there for the delivery.

I had a customer awhile back who had ordered an item. The expected delivery was a few days. She called me on the phone a couple of weeks after the item was shipped saying she had not gotten it. I checked the tracking and it said it was delivered and placed on the front porch more than a week before. I asked the lady if she could check her front porch. It took her quite awhile to come back to the phone. Apparently the front door and the front porch were not normally used. Sure enough there was her item – on her front porch. She thinks I am a psychic that can do remote viewing – I could not convince her I was just reading the UPS track and confirm notices on my computer.

I have made a number of changes to the Yard Garden Windmill site. The first thing that has changed is the checkout. I had thought that adding Pay Pal Buy Now buttons to each item would make it easier for customers to Check Out. For most customers the Buy Now button did work, however for a number of customers this became an aggravation. Because of this all of the Pay Pal Buy Now buttons have been deleted and check out is back to the Add to Cart check out that is part of the way the site works.

I have updated the FAQ section to help customers understand the way the check out works. Each item now has a link to the FAQ where the Check Out information is located. You can click HERE to see the FAQ and check out instructions.

I have also added and options menu to the Antique Copper weathervanes to make it easier to choose which mount you want. There now are pictures of the mounts. Just click on the mount you want and then check out.

My sales site yardgardenwindmill.com had a major problem last week. Somehow the link to Pay Pal failed. The result was customers were calling in and emailing saying they could not check out. The site is actually a “build it” site which means I can add pages and products but I have no real control over how things work. Called the provider and it ended up taking a few days before they got it fixed.

In the mean time I began adding Pay Pal Buy Now buttons to each product just so customers would have a way to buy. At this point nearly a week later I have added a either a Buy Now or Add to Cart Pay Pal button, and I am finding I like this check out better than the check out that is included with the site. Items now have a Buy Now button that will take people directly to Pay Pal. (Remember that on the left there is a place where you can check out using a credit card — you do not have to have a Pay Pal account. On the Right is where you check out if you are a Pay Pal member)

I have kept the old Add to Cart check out working. This is for customers who do not want to use a credit card on line or who wish to use a check or money order. Use this check out if you wish to call in with a credit card.

It has been a “fun” week getting everything updated. I am not done with every item yet so if you do not see the Pay Pal Check out or Buy Now button on an item you are interested in – you can still use the other check out. The Pay Pal check out is on the left below each item – the “old” check out is on the Right.
